Avebury
I much prefer to visit the stone circles here than the more popular Stonehenge, the main reason being is that you can get close to the stones and, if you feel inclined, touch or even hug them. The village is small, with just a few shops, The Red Lion Pub and the National Trust shops, cafe, toilets & gallery. The car park is small to ensure that the place does not get too crowded and it is a bit expensive (£5 before 3pm, £3 after at least it was last time we visited!) although that is the only price you pay so, on reflection it is not such a bad price after all. If you're looking to buy crystals or souvenirs then The Henge Shop is well worth a visit. Here are some photos I took on a trip to Avebury a few years ago.
Chalice Well Gardens
This is one of my favourite places to visit & I try to go there at least once a year. It's peaceful and calming with the added bonus of the Chalice Well Red Spring. There is a wellhead where you can take the waters and a pool where you can bathe in the Red Spring waters - the water is ankle deep and very cold!!! Outside the gardens you can access the water of the White Spring (just come out of the gardens on to Chilkwell Street and turn left, then bear left at the next corner and walk up the hill, the White Spring is about half way up on the other side of the road).
They have a lovely gift shop and they also host workshops & retreats.
Dewstow Gardens
These gardens are more accessible for me as they are not too far away. Near the historic village of Caerwent, Dewstow Gardens & Grottoes are an amazing find with a lovely story of their re-discovery. The Grottoes are underground and were discovered by accident. The gardens themselves are a lovely place to just chill out, relax or meditate.
Wentwood Forest
This is another place we like to go to relax and enjoy a nice walk. The only thing that saddens me when I visit, however, is the amount of rubbish lying around, as certain areas are obviously popular with people who like to have barbecues, picnics or boozy parties and leave a mess behind.
Stonehenge
My husband & I were gifted a visit to Stonehenge where we could actually walk around the stone circle. It was a very chilly early morning visit in February 2018 and we were part of a small group. I managed to take some lovely photos.
Elan Valley
This wonderful place is where I go to co-host the H3 Retreats. The scenery is amazing and if you time it right travelling through Rhayader you will see a massive flock of red kites swooping down for feeding time!
